No: Average time period for cord separation is 10-14 days. It is okay to make sure that the area remains clean and dry. In general, excessive bleeding, fever or redness and/or swelling in this area contact your pediatrician. But 1 wk after separation there should be no more blood. She should see her pediatrician.

Not uncommon: Occasionally there will be a nub of tissue left after cord separation.This nub of reactive or granulation tissue is soft and bleeds easily.Your babies doc may need to remove this or treat the nub with a silver nitrate solution to help it heal.
