A member asked:

My 9months baby boy is diagnosed with basal interstitial pneumonia, is it benign? may i know the treatment? and how this be prevented

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: Bacteria, viruses, or fungi may infect the interstitium of the lung. A bacterium called mycoplasma pneumonia is the most common cause in older kids. The label of "interstitial" most likely refers to the x-ray findings. If your infant son has otherwise been healthy and doing well-a full recovery is likely. Prevention: hand washing and avoiding large crowds.
