Likely a lymph node: There are many pea sized lymph nodes located in the tissues of the neck & they are prominent when they overly muscles. They can enlarge when stimulated by bug bites on the surrounding skin or illness or throat drainage. On rare occasion they can become infected by various germs & swell to the size of a walnut & need to be drained. Most settle down after 2-3 wks & resume their pre-stimulated size.
