Uncertain: Buspar (generic buspirone) is an anti-anxiety agent approved to treat generalized anxiety disorder. The fda classifies it as pregnancy category b. This means that animal studies have shown no evidence of birth defects, but no adequate studies have been performed to rule out birth defects in humans. During pregnancy the risks vs benefits must be considered by the patient and their doctor.

Careful.: Currently, no systematic data are available on the reproductive safety of non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic agents such as buspar (buspirone). Therefore, despite the category b status it is not recommended for use in pregnancy.
