Crown lengthening: Crown lengthening is generally done either to provide additional (longer) tooth structure to increase retention for a crown, or to provide more room at or below the gumline for a healthy crown margin. A post is placed inside of the root of the tooth.

No.: A loose crown post is not an indication by itself for crown lengthening. Crown lengthening is necessary when there is too little tooth structure above the gum to hold a crown and you wish to save the tooth.
