Fever reduction: With a fever over 105, the risk of bacterial illness is statistically higher in kids over 3 years old to adulthood. Therefore, the goal is fever reduction with meds and other cooling techniques like cool compresses to the major artery areas like armpits, groin, neck and forehead (headaches and feeling better). Then, labs and procedures may be done depending on the clinical picture and age.

Bring it down!: While working to bring the fever down quickly, efforts would also be made to find the cause of the fever and to try to keep the person;s vital signs ( blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, etc.) as stable as possible - look for infection, trauma or other insult that might raise the body temperature and treat that cause promptly. Would also hydrate the patient and admit them to the hospital.
