Acne and Bacteria: A bacteria, known as propionibacterium acnes, is a normal inhabitant of the skin. It uses sebum as a nutrient for growth, therefore increases in follicles during puberty. People with acne have more propionibacterium acnes in their follicles than people without acne. Clindamycin decreases the bacteria which is involved in acne.

Kills bacteria: Acne, particularly deeper forms like inflammatory acne, nodular acne, and cystic acne are caused in part by proprionibacterium infection. Clindamycin is an antibiotic that can be very effective at killing this bacteria.
