A member asked:

What needs to be done if you do not have a bowel movement everyday, or once a week?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Well. . . : Bowel regularity is different for each of us, and once a day may not be "normal" for many. Once a week is probably "not enough" and may qualify as constipation. Treat accordingly with stool softeners, bulk agents, increased fluids, suppositories, enemas, or disimpaction and doctor visit. Roughly in that order of severity. When bowel habits change, view it as a warning sign--see your doctor.
