Possibly: Black watery stools can be blood from high up in the bowel. Many possibilities such as ulcer or crohn's disease. For this he needs to see a gastroenterologist.

Yes but..: A concern about upper GI bleeding is low. Coffee ground like matter in diarrhea is not the same as emesis. But let your doctor know.
