Very tough question.: Simple question, but not easy to answer. It is easier to prevent acne than treating severe acne because severe/cystic acnes will cause scars which are permanent. Inflammatory acne are often treated with topical benzoy/antibiotic combo or oral antibiotics. If severe, acutane is what you will likely need..It is best to consult doc for individualized treatment.

Strong Rx: Acne on the trunk usually won't respond well to topicals, though you may continue to use benzoyl peroxide and perhaps topical clindamycin. If you have not yet been offered it, a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline 500 2x/day may do the trick. Dermatologists have the strong stuff.

No quick fix: Acne on your trunk will require systemic medication. Start applying topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerable and make an appointment with your physician. An antibiotic may be enough, spironolacctone or the oral contraceptive pill may clear you if you're female, or you may be a candidate for isotretinoin.
