A member asked:

Why do women have menstrual cycle?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

To become pregnant: Each month during your reproductive life the lining of your uterus (endometrium) thickens in anticipation of a pregnancy implanting into it. If that doesn't happen, hormonal changes make you shed that lining (your period) so it can be regenerated the next cycle.
