You don't need to...: Methotrexate (mtx) can safely stopped. Other immunosuppressives, like Prednisone (a steroid), need to be slowly tapered off (weaned) if you have been on it for a prolonged period of time. You can get very sick (and even die in some cases) if you stop a steroid abruptly after having been on a high dose of it for a long time. I would suggest talking to the doc who prescribed your mtx to clarify.

Weaning is not: Necessary. The body takes 2 & 1/2 months to eliminate MTX. Stopping is enough. Weaning makes little sense!
