LASIK: Mostly this is not done under about age 23 for the intrinsic changes in eye power to stabilize. There are a few special cases of this for special situations in younger patients. At age 42 you are well beyond these parameters.

18: Lasik is fda approved for patients over 18 but most refractive surgeons prefer to wait until patients are over 21 to perform the surgery as there is a higher likelihood for the prescription being stable. There is no upper limit on age for lasik.
