What is meant by researchers when they say "double-blind" studies?

Research: An experiment designed to test the effect of a treatment or substance by using groups of experimental and control subjects in which neither the subjects nor the investigators know which treatment or substance is being administered to which group.

Double blind: The subject or patient and the examiner or doctor both do not know whether the subject received the treatment or the placebo.
