If you sprained: Your foot and your fifth metatarsal hurts one would want to make sure there is o fracture to this bone. Avulsion fractures of the base of the fifth metatarsal are common after sprains. There are also a few ligamentous and tendon attachments to the bone that could cause issues like tendonitis etc. If pain present, a surgical shoe or cam walker boot can help rest the foot.
