Ok,....missed period: Pregnancy is certainly the most common reason for a missed period when sexually active. An anovulatory cycle (your ovary just does not release an egg that month), thyroid conditions, rapid weight fluctuations, extreme exercise, stress, etc. Are all other causes that may be possible. If you are having sex unprotected, check pregnancy tests, otherwise if you miss your next one too, see dr. For eval.

You : You need to immediately take a urine pregnancy test. If it is negative, wait two days and take another test. If it is still negative but you don't get your period, then see your doctor and schedule a blood pregnancy test (serum HCG level) which is more accurate. If you develop pain, spotting, vomiting, or light-headedness then you will need to be seen in the er.

May be nothing: Missed periods, especially in times of stress, are not uncommon. However, the obvious other answer is pregnancy; if you have had sexual intercourse, a pregnancy test at the appropriate time would be indicated.

Pregnancy test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctor's office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections & hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do a home pregnancy test . There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.
