For 11 days now i have been experiencing extremely painful, stabbing pain which starts on the left rear rib cage and shoots toward my spine.

Some possiblities: Thoracic disc herniation could cause that. May be we are getting the shingles in the back area. Some time we have to think about some problem in the chest area. Go and check it out.
