Because....: Neurontin (gabapentin) when used for pain is a medication that does not reduce inflammation or help what is called proprioceptive pain. This medication acts on the membrane of your nerves and is mainly useful for pain in which the nerve transmission of the pain needs to be altered.

Nerve treatment: Neurontin (gabapentin) or Gabapentin was formulated as a medication to treat seizures. There is no evidence that it is helpful for pain except for that due to nerves.
