No.: Usually not. If blood loss is significant, or if significant soft tissue releases are needed, then the chance of transfusion is higher.

Rarely: A vast majority of knee replacement surgeries can safely be performed without the need for blood transfusion. Many surgeons employ a peri-operative patient blood management system that addresses the concern about transfusions prior to, during and after surgery.
