Substitutes: Dentures are removal prosthetic restorations that replace teeth that have been extracted. When all your teeth are missing they are replaced with full dentures, while partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth. Dentures never completely feel like nor function as well as natural teeth. Implant supported replacements are better options.

Dentures for ?: Dentures are plastic replacement of lost teeth ; supporting bone. When fabricated well they return much of the patients form ; function chewing, speaking, facial form, and support of the lower face. With the advent of dental implants to support the dentures they can be minimalized to half of the original size return better biting force and comfort like that of natural teeth. My patients love that.

For? Seriously?: For chewing! smiling! speaking! most patients think that dentures are replacements for teeth. They are not! they are optional treatment for no teeth. They don't work or feel like teeth, they are merely prosthetic replacements that allow the patient to accomplish some of the things that natural teeth do. They are movable, unless fixed by implants and removable unless screw-retained into implants.

Teeth Replacement : Dentures are oral prosthetic appliances to replace missing teeth. A full removeable Denture replaces an entire arch ( upper or lower) and a partial removable replaces one or more teeth on an arch. As stated these come in and out of one's mouth and are the most economical. Fixed partial denture is cemented or bonded to adjacent teeth and don't come out. Hope that answers your question.
