Pain: Usually a meniscus tear will cause knee pain. Specifically it usually causes pain with twisting, cutting or going up or down stairs. Sometimes the knee can lock up or give out, these can also be signs of a meniscal tear. Your sports medicine doctor can do an examination of the knee which often can help determine if the meniscus is torn.
