Yes, yet also Usual: Atherosclerosis is accumulation of white blood cells within the walls of arteries, typically starts in childhood, yet is asymptomatic for decades because the artery walls thicken & the opening remains unchanged for decades. Yes, it is serious because rupture of plaques suddenly showers clot inducing tissue into the blood downstream & occasionally induces clots over the rupture & block the artery.
