Dr. John Michalski answered

Specializes in Orthopedic Surgery

Osteonecrosis: Also called avascular necrosis or avn, this can cause pain and deformity of the joint--caused by decreased blood supply that leads to bone death. If minimal stick with conservative treatments. If significant, may need partial or total knee replacement.
