A member asked:

There is a family history of glaucoma and macular degeneration, how likely will it be that i will get that?

Depends: Family history (genetics) is a risk factor for both. We can not gauge your risk genetically yet. You should see your eye doctor on a regular basis (yearly) to surveil against these and other eye diseases.

Variable.: Macular degeneration risks include a family history, extensive uv light exposure and a nutritional component where the rods and cones (photoreceptors)) do not have adequate sources of nutrition. You should concentrate on protecting your eye from sin exposure (sunglasses), eating a health diet full of green leafy vegetables to obtain lutein, and consider taking a multivitamin.
