No: I'm not sure what you are referring to by retainers. It may be a different type of appliance for some other purpose. Speak with your orthodontist to clarify.

Probably Not: Orthodontic retainers help keep the position of your teeth after moving your teeth. If you haven't moved your teeth, then there's no real reason to wear a retainer.

Regular retainer?NO: Go straight to the head of the line and have your braces put on, no "pre" retainer use is needed. Enjoy your coming new smile!

No: Retainers are typically designed to "retain" or "hold, " not straighten teeth. There are instances where devices that look like retainers (made of plastic) are used for some limited correction in preparation for braces but this is not universal. Why not make an appointment for an evaluation at the univ. Of iowa orthodontic department (a very good one) to see what is best for you.

No: Typically retainers are for after orthodontic treatment. I would talk to your orthodontist and understand their treatment plan better. If you are still concerned, get a second opinion from a board certified orthodontist.
