Uterine lining: The uterus sheds its lining every month. Depending on your hormone levels sometimes women have dark brown spotting or small clots prior to have bright red bleeding. This is normal. If period is more heavy, could be due to hormone changes. A birth control pill can often make periods lighter if that's something you desire.
