Some but not all: Certain knee ligament injuries notoriously require surgery especially when complete and or longstanding. Acl and lcl/plc injured ligaments usually require surgery. Mcl and PCL injuries often can be braced and start early rehabilitation and avoid surgical intervention.

Not all: Not all tears require surgery. Some tears may heal with conservative management.
