Yes it is possible: You may be having nightmares because of having a traumatic experience, for example physical abuse, witnessing domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc. Nightmares may also represent fear, separation anxiety or any subconscious conflict as well as feeling unsafe. Watching a horror movie or reading a horror story can also cause nightmares. Nightmares may also happen without any obvious reasons.

Maybe: Nightmares are vivid dreams that occur early in the morning. Usually during the fourth rem cycle when the rem time of the cycle is longest and we dream the longest. Sometimes it just means you are dreaming more. On the other hand if you are stressed by something the n ightmare may be a sign that your mind is rehashing events and trying to find solutions. Counseling is the best way to get help.
