DEFINITELY: Sucking of the thumb constantly is like having an orthodontist moving teeth for braces. Over a period of time, the force and para-functional habit (which is what this is called, ) can move the teeth permanently and cause other shifting of the other teeth, starting a negative domino effect.

Definitely: Repeated pressure on your teeth always results in some movement. That's how orthodontic braces work. The difference is that the pressure from your thumb will move your teeth in an unpredictable and undesirable manner. They will also get loose over time from the constant back and forth movement. Both of these consequences are not ideal for the long-term survival of your teeth, nor your smile.
