Care and comfort: Nightmares are not uncommon in children, but are more infrequent past 7 or 8. Soothing evening routines, and reducing stress help. Some psychologists use a technique in which the power of suggestion can alter or alleviate dreams. If they persist it can be symptomatic of a more general problem. Consult pediatrician, ped. Psychiatrist or ped psychologist especially if night terrors.

Make him feel safe.: Children may experience nightmares related to a traumatic experience, like physical or sexual abuse or witnessing violence or watching a horror movie. Help the child to feel safe and secure by answering his /her questions and reassuring the child that he is safe and you are there to protect him.Nightmares may represent the hidden subconscious of the child or may have no hidden meaning.
