What is the difference between scars and healing areas?

Same thing: All injuries heal with a scar, which is a normal healing process. Occasionally scars develop abnormally and become thick and hard - this is called a hypertrophic scar. A scar that grows beyond the boundaries of the wound is a keloid scar.
