If the back pain : Is tenderness at the insertion site, anti-inflammatories and warm compresses may help. If it is neurological pain that radiates into the hips or legs, you should notify your anesthesiologist and probably get a neurological work up.

Rest, heat & advil (ibuprofen): Complications from lumbar epidural injections are extremely rare. When you have major problem you have to go to your doctor how did that and he will treat you. Mild complications like headache, rest and, warm compresses some advil (ibuprofen) will take of it, if persist the doctor could help with some patches.
