One day: Ovulation is a one-day, one time event each month. A woman's fertile period, on the other hand, lasts 3-7 days, or more, since sperm can remain viable for quite some time after having sex.

One: Literally, ovulation occurs at the moment that an oocyte (egg) is released from a woman's ovary. More generally, the peri-ovulatory process (time around ovulation) could be considered to last from the day that lh peaks through actual ovulation (36 hours roughly, ) or even until Progesterone begins to rise (3-to-5 days.).
Dr. Jeff Livingston

One: Ovulation occurs in an instant one time per month. Fertilization may occur as fast as 15 min and as long as 3 days after ovulation.

Ovulation: Ovulation is the event of the ovary releasing the readied egg. Sperm, since they can live up to five days inside of a female, left in the vagina on the five days prior to ovulation are the sperm most likely to cause pregnancy when the egg pops out of the ovary.

A 30-year-old female asked:

How many days before ovulation can woman get pregnant?

Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Not possible: Before ovulation, it impossible for a woman to get pregnant from her own egg that she is expecting to come out of her ovary (because the egg is still in the ovary). This means she can only get pregnant after she ovulates, because her egg is out of the ovary after ovulation. Of course, she can have sex before ovulation, and she can get pregnant from that sex if the sperm survive until ovulation.
