The sequence: The ovaries usually release one egg at a time and the release creates a functioning body that produces hormones that prevent further releases for that month. Exceptions occur but are unusual. The exact date is usually mid cycle in those with regular cycles. If that egg is in position to encounter sperm there at be conception. There is an overlap of a day or 2 either way where egg/sperm can join
