Yes: Some old literature may have suggested that patients with implants should take antibiotics before seeing the dentist. Today's literature does not require this prophylaxis so you can schedule your annual cleaning as you normally would.

Yes!: It is safe to see your dentist after breast implant surgery. Some doctors still recommend you take an antibiotic before surgery. There is no scientific literature to suggest this offers any significant protection to the implants.

Its ok: But all implants have the ability to be seeded if bacteria gets into the blood stream. So if i were you i wouldnt risk it even though there is no real literature to suggest otherwise. People with bad cavities and poor oral hygeine prophylaxis may be best in the routine dental visit.

Yes: science lacking: While it is generally not recommended many surgeons still perform this however the science supporting this practice is lacking. The belief is that dental procedures cause bacteria to enter the blood stream where they may come to settle on the breast implants forming a biofilm that may stimulate capsular contracture formation. This is a practice still recommended by many orthopedic surgeons.

Yes: No problem having dental work after breast augmentation surgery; the use of “prophylactic” antibiotics may be helpful. At least theoretically, people can become temporarily “bacteremic" ( bacteria in the blood stream) after dental work; the concern is the potential for seeding of the breast implants by bacteria potentially initiating the process of encapsulation.

Yes: There is no contraindication to have a dental cleaning or treatment after the majority of surgeries. Antibiotic prophylaxis as mentioned above is not recommended. The recommendations of antibiotic prophylaxis has changed over the years and according to new studies and guidelines, the risks from taking it far outweigh the benefits.

Good question!: Firstly i'd like to read the research the previous dr quotes on risk benefit of bacteremia in the face of implants, as i don't believe it. Secondly please send references for the cause of capsular contracture, which are a)not completely known. & b)have overwhelming bacterial dna evidence in the capsules. So, when you don't know, prudence requires more careful thought about risk/benefit! definitely.

Yes: Yes, it is ok to go to the dentist after having a breast augmentation- you should make the dentist aware that you are post procedure, but it is safe.
