Glaucoma: Carbidopa/levodopa are contraindicated in narrow angle glaucoma because it may result in acute intraocular pressure rise. In people with open angle glaucoma, intraocular pressure should be monitored carefully.

Increased IOP: While levodopa/carbidopa primarily is a dopaminergic agent, there may be cross-over onto cholinergic receptors. These receptors are generally responsible for pupil dilation which can cause narrowing of the angle which can increase eye pressure. A laser iridotomy may help in some cases but not all. The medication could be tried if needed, with careful supervision by an ophthalmologist.

Narrow angle: If you have narrow angle glaucoma, you should have or already have laser peripheral iridotomies performed. Once these lasers are performed, the medication will not have nay significant effect on the eyes.

May trigger attack: See an ophthalmologist for an exam and gonioscopy to determine your risk for narrow angle glaucoma. If you have already been treated with a laser peripheral iridotomy, then you should be safe, but it is still important to monitor your intraocular pressure when starting this medication.
