Limited help: A brace will provide some support and control of swelling, but some formal rehab will be required to build and tone thigh muscles.

Section 504: This is an orthopedic condition that can afford her accomodations in school under " section 504" of the american rehabilitation act. It requires a letter from her doctor stating the condition, need & duration. The school nurse needs to be advised if she requires Ibuprofen or other meds during school hours. She may be allowed to leave classes early/enter them late or have special seating.

No: Exercise for strengthening is the best to help. A genutrain sleeve could help a little.

Possibly: While a knee brace will do nothing for the long term recovery or "healing" of a plica resection nor will it prevent recurrence, it is possible that in the initial few weeks after surgery a brace may help control swelling and "stabilize" a weakened knee to allow for more comfort during school. Still, a structured therapy and strengthening program are the best long-lasting solution.

Knee plica: Following this surgery a knee sleeve rather than a full knee brace may be necessary. A good physical therapy program to ensure proper muscle firing is helpful along with icing of the knee is recommended.
