Many possibilities: Usually it is just muscle strain. This is best treated with otc pain relievers and stretching exercises. Other causes can be issues with joints or discs of the spine. In addition, there are many non spinal causes of back pain.

Non specific: The back pain might be associated with radiculopathy. Ask your doctor about this.
