TMJ & burning mouth: Tmj is a three letter acronym for temporal mandibular joint. The term is incorrrectly applied to symptoms of pain related to many causes affecting the joint itself. It checked by a dentist who can locate and treat the causes for the pain. Two of many reasons for burning mouth are burning mouth syndrome or more likely infection. Some nutritional deficiencies or drugs can also cause it.

Probably not related: They are usually two separate conditions and both require an examination to determine the cause of the problems. One the exact cause of the problem is determined, treatment options can be considered. The burning sensation could be a systemic condition or localized from the tongue. Tmj refers to a number of conditions related to the jaw joint and their associated structures.
