What is a dislocated tailbone?

A coccyx injury: The tail bone (sacrum) ends in a series of small bones (like a rattlesnake tail) called the coccyx. If a fall or the traumatic delivery of a baby tears the ligaments (tissue straps) that hold the bones in place, the coccyx moves out of position (dislocates). This is not only painful, but can be painful for a considerable period of time.

Could happen: Typically can be a post-traumatic finding if one lands forcefully right on the coccyx. It can fracture, or can dislocated. Sometimes some people have something called hooked coccyx, where there is no dislocation, but there is an acutely angled (inwardly angled coccyx), these all could be symptomatic and cause pain in the tailbone area.
