Can but unlikely!: You can fracture your coccyx, or bruise the lower portion of your back. Both usually remit with time!

Not typically: Typically, tailbone or coccyx injuries cause isolated tailbone pain. Because the coccyx is essentially non-functioning and not involved in structural support or movement/gait anatomy it does not typically lead to pain outside of the affected area. If you sustained a tailbone injury, there may be concomitant injury to other areas of your spine as well. You should have those areas checked out.

Long term pain , peh: Tailbone or coccyx injuries sometimes cause soft tissue related long term painful conditions. In some cases, specialized injections and medications can help fix this problem. Interestingly, it's not typically a fracture or broken bone that does this , but a severe impact that doesn't cause a fracture.

Yes: Maybe not permanent, but a tailbone injury can last for years.
