It's regurgitation: When your gastroesophageal flap valve is weak it allows gastric contents to reflux back up the esophagus. Most people just experience heartburn with this. When it's a severely failing valve then actual food comes up like you are experiencing. Anti-reflux surgery is 95% effective at curing typical reflux symptoms and regurgitation. See a surgeon experienced in minimally invasive reflux surgery.

Ppi's are probably : Food coming back is a bit more than gerd. Gerd is gastro-esophogeal reflux disease- and the reflux is usually acid and stomach fluid as opposed to food. Actual food coming back is regurgitation and could be a sign of reflux problems or perhaps hiatal hernia. Eating smaller bites and chewing thoroughly and slowly (completely) may help. If burning- acid then a ppi would be good. H2 inhbitor also.
