How do you treat a baker's cyst on the knee?

Aspir, Meds, Rest: Let's make sure we're talking about the same thing first. A baker's cyst is also known as a popliteal cyst. It is located on the back of your knee. It appears as a fluid-filled mass. To treat a painful baker's cyst, your doctor may first want to confirm with ultrasound or other imaging. Needle aspiration with cortisone injection, anti-inflammatory medications and rest usually leads to resolution.

Difficult: A baker's cyst is an out pouching of joint fluid found in the back of the knee. It forms when there is excess joint fluid in the knee usually related to chronic arthritis the knee. Sometimes the cysts are painful but usually they cause a sense of restricted range of motion. I will occasionally drain them with a needle (did one last week) if they are bothersome but they usually come back.
