A type of bacteria: Staph=staphylococcus.2 groups of staph bacteria exist: s. Aureus (sa) & s. Non-aureus. Most serious staph infections are due to sa. 2 major groups of sa are deteremined by antibiotic resistance:mssa & mrsa. Mrsa is the resistant type of staph which may require special antibiotics. Most often sa infects: skin, lungs, blood, heart valves, bones & brain. 30% of us have sa on our nose or skin normally.

CA-MRSA: Treatment of MRSA infection depends on where the infection is & how ill the patient is. For eg, treatment for MRSA infection in the blood is differs from MRSA infection on the skin. It also depends if it's hospital or community acquired. If uncomplicated skin infection, eg abscess, i&d, bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) clidna, zyvox are a good start until antibiotic sensitivity is available at 48 hours.
