Interesting idea: Great question, and I have never used hypnosis in this way before. Why would you want to forget someone who has been part of your life, though? I'm guessing this must have been a painful relationship for you to ask, but even painful ones generally teach us something important. Might it be more useful to consider psychotherapy to help move through the pain and integrate any useful lessons?

Sort of: It's probably easier to forget someone's emotional importance more easily via hypnosis than forget them completely. The pros would be lessening the pain associated with emotional memories, the cons would be separating yourself from your own experience, and in that way not learning from it. In psychotherapy, we try very hard to help people integrate their experiences, not forget them.

Yes and no: In my experience it's easier to reduce/eliminate/"forget" the effect a person has on you rather than eliminate the person from your memory. If a person was in your life, they had some good effects too, and it's important to acknowledge that, while at the same time altering how they affected you.

Probably not: Hypnosis probably cannot be used to forget someone. I tried using it for 2 patients who wanted to give it a try. It was not helpful for that. I have not heard of any other hypnotherapist who has been successful using hypnosis to help a patient forget someone. But that doesn' t mean that it can't be done.
