Psychosis: Psychosis is a symptom, like fever is a symptom. Many conditions can have psychosis as a symptom, maybe in fact a 100 different conditions. Schizophrenia is a brain disease which has the symptom of psychosis at its'core. One can also become psychotic during episodes of mood disorders.

Break with reality: Psychosis presents in various ways but one common thread is break with reality. Hearing voices which others don't hear, suspiciousness and paranoia, delusions are some of sensory input to brain that are mis -perceived. Similarly feeling that one is not a human is a mis perception and a feeling that is a break from reality .And is due to sensory mis -perceptions. Psychosis is symptom no diagnosis.

Psychosis: Is a symptom of break from reality. Can occur in psychotic disorders, mood disorders and organic such as from effect of illicit substances or medications or medical illnesses.
