Night Guards: There are so many types of night guard appliances which are designed to meet the individual and unique needs of the patient as well as a patient's tolerance. This is a question for you and your dentist to explore. Keep in mind that the time it takes to get used to an appliance, varies from person to person.

Only FEW effective: Some people grind their teeth at night, but many more actually clench their teeth while sleeping. This can produce headaches, earaches or stuffiness, tired jaws, clicking jaws and more. I see patients bring their old guards into my office. I find that 95% of them are not effective for these problems. See a "bite" dentist or TMJ dentist to get the right type of guard.

2 types: Either will reduce clenching by about 70%. They include a deprogramming orthotic and a nti. Like all othotics they can have side effects and before selecting which is the "best" for you a discussion should take place with your dentist or a dentist specializing in facial pain.
