No: I would not suggest it as if you have complications you may end up in trouble. It is a complicated surgery.

Overseas surgery: Surgeons in other countries are often trained as well as physicians in the usa. However there may be less regulation about safety and infection control elsewhere. Also, what do you do if you have a problem? It's difficult to go back to your surgeon.

No. Dangerous: It is not safe. You can have a serious complication and then you will end up seeing a plastic surgeon in the us to fix your complication. This will be cash out of pocket that your insurance company will not cover. And you will end up paying much much more than that 'cheap face lift' was worth.

Not safe!: I would not advocate travel abroad for a facelift. I have seen too many complications from unconventional techniques, use of unapproved and unknown synthetic materials that lead to infection and scarring, and patient delays in seeking care once they return to the states. Why cut corners when this is your face? The travel time and expense, and the risks are not worth the money saved.

Caveat emptor: Buyer beware. Cheap facelifts and typically cheap for a reason and signal less attention to the details. The particular problem with traveling abroad for cosmetic surgery is that once you return you're essentially on your own. If you have a complication, you have nobody to turn to. Your insurance will not cover any revisions or management of complications. It's not worth the risk.

Not a bargain: This is not a place to look for the lowest price. A facelift is not commodity, unlike a car, you are not buying hte same product from different dealers, look for quality and not price.

Cosmetic tourism: It is dangerous to go overseas to get a cheap facelift. You have no lengthy follow up, you cannot be certain of the surgeon's credentials, you cannot be sure of the standards of the surgical facility and you cannot be sure of the anesthesiologists qualifications. You are better off saving money and doing it in us.

Medical tourism: One of the issues with medical tourism is your postoperative care. Who will monitor your healing and who will care for you if you have a complication? Your best bet would be to have your face evaluated by a board certified facial plastic surgeon.
