A member asked:

How long should i wait before drinking alcohol after a car accident with a possible liver laceration?

It depends: It depends on the severity of the liver injury.Your doctor will know your case specifically and advise you. Blunt trauma can cause laceration the liver but in addition the liver is is often contused (bruised) which can affect liver function more than the laceration. Recovery can take weeks to months. If you are taking pain medication you definately should refrain from alcohol.

Alcohol: If the car accident had anything to do with alcohol, i wouldn't recommend you drink ever. Consult with your physician for clearance for alcohol consumption.
