A member asked:

What is the difference between living wills and health care proxies?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: Living will is a legal document that lists your healthcare wishes when you become incapacitated or otherwise are unable to make your own decisions for any reason. You write this while you are of sound mind. A healthcare proxy is when you designate someone else (in a written document) to make healthcare decisions for you when you are not able to. Hopefully, they follow your wishes.
